The complaint was lodged by the official opposition, the uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party, which accuses the President of abusing his power, acting improperly, and failing to uphold his executive responsibilities.

According to the MK Party, Ramaphosa has allegedly acted against the best interests of the republic. The party welcomed Public Protector Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka’s decision to proceed with the investigation, describing it as a necessary step toward accountability.

MK Party Spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela said the investigation is essential to restoring credibility to the highest office in the country. He cited what the party views as longstanding failures during Ramaphosa’s tenure, “from the Phala Phala scandal, to the steady erosion of oversight institutions and the alleged misuse of state apparatus to protect himself and his close associates.”

Ndhlela added that the party intends to defend SA’s constitutional democracy, stressing that “no individual, including the sitting President, is placed above the law.”
