The African Union (AU) Commission is hosting the first-ever AU conference on Digital Agriculture

The African Union (AU) Commission is hosting the first-ever AU conference on Digital Agriculture from December 1 to 3 ,2025, at its headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The conference, under the theme “Shaping Agricultural Policy for Africa’s Future: Innovation, Climate-Smart Practices, and Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development”, is focusing on harnessing digital technologies to improve productivity, sustainability, and resilience in Africa’s agricultural sector.

The event brings together government officials, policymakers, researchers, technology innovators, farmers, agribusinesses, development practitioners, and investors. Discussions centre on the latest trends in digital agriculture, including innovative agri-tech solutions, market access and value chain development, climate-smart practices, regulatory frameworks, and the management of agricultural data. Delegates are exploring successful digital agriculture initiatives from across the continent and beyond, while identifying policies and strategies to encourage wider adoption of digital tools in farming.

The conference builds on the AU’s Digital Agriculture Strategy, adopted in February 2024, which is part of broader efforts under the Policy and Regulation Initiative for Digital Africa.

The strategy seeks to expand connectivity, improve access to affordable internet services, and integrate digital solutions into agriculture as part of the AU’s long-term vision for sustainable development. By aligning with Agenda 2063 and initiatives such as the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa and the African Continental Free Trade Area, the conference aims to foster collaboration, empower smallholder farmers, and promote investment in digital agriculture to support Africa’s future growth.
