Two Zimbabwean nationals have been arrested in South Africa’s (SA) Limpopo province for unlawful possession of explosives, police said on Sunday.
The men were travelling in a taxi from Zimbabwe to Gauteng when officers stopped and searched the vehicle along the N1 road.
Police Spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba said authorities discovered seven boxes of explosives, along with connector fuses, detonator cords, and bluster cartridges, with an estimated street value of R2.5 million ($135 000). The taxi, a Toyota Quantum, and an attached trailer were confiscated.
“The two male suspects were immediately arrested and will appear at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court this Monday,” Ledwaba added, noting that several other items were also recovered during the search.
