Mnangagwa has committed to increase domestic financing
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has committed to increase domestic financing for his country’s health sector.
He says this is to safeguard the gains in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
Zimbabwe is among a few countries globally that have surpassed the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS global targets and achieved epidemic control.
In January 2026 Zimbabwe is expected to roll out an injectable drugs for HIV prevention as part of its national strategy.
Mnangagwa says: “This year we commemorate this event with immerse pride. not only has Zimbabwe reached the global 95-95-95 targets and achieved epidemic control in 2022. But now has surpassed the targets. Today 97% of people living with HIV pressed. I know their status, over 95% are on life-saving antiretroviral therapy and 96 percent of those on treatment are virally suphe achievements reflect the dedication of our focused leadership, as the second republic, communities and health workers work together.
These gains assure us that the nation is firmly on the path towards ending Aids. Yet, challenges remain. young people, women and other vulnerable groups continue to bear a disproportionate burden. Stigma still discourages many from seeking prevention and treatment services, while financial resources have never been adequate.”
