Google has revealed the country’s top searches for 2025, highlighting the issues, events, and personalities that captured public attention over the past year.
Leading the list are the G20, Unisa registration, KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the late musician Winnie Khumalo, and actor Aaron Pierre, known for his role in The Lion King.
The annual report, Year in Search, tracks the fastest-rising queries, providing a window into what South Africans (SA) wanted to know, follow, or debate throughout 2025.
A Google Spokesperson said the report is more than just a ranking; “It’s a celebration of what our users care about. Each year we reflect on the questions and topics South Africans are engaging with, and this year’s list shows the stories and moments that mattered most.”
The findings highlight both global and local interests, from major international events like the G20 to national education updates and cultural milestones.
