Cameroon’s preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) have been thrown into turmoil after head coach Marc Brys was dismissed amid serious allegations of misconduct.
Goalkeeper Andre Onana has also been left out of the squad following the shake-up.
The decision came days after Samuel Eto’o was re-elected as President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot). Eto’o and his executive committee issued a statement citing a long list of professional failings by Brys, including allegedly encouraging players to defy Fecafoot, failing to attend meetings, refusing to disclose training programmes, jeopardising sponsor relationships, delaying squad announcements, and avoiding press duties. Brys, a Belgian appointed by Cameroon’s Sports Ministry in April 2024, a decision Eto’o reportedly tried to overturn, was also accused of collaborating with unknown individuals within the federation.
Brys has been replaced by his assistant, David Pagou, an experienced Cameroonian coach with a record of managing top-tier domestic teams.
