The building of a floating solar plant

The Zimbabwean government says it will start building a floating solar plant on the world’s largest human-made lake, Lake Kariba.

The 600 megawatt floating solar project will be implemented in three phases over a five-year period.

The first phase will generate 150 megawatts and is expected to commence during the second quarter of 2026.

The Kariba Floating Solar Plant is also expected to preserve water during the day and ensure long-term sustainability of the Kariba power generation system.

Zimbabwe shares Lake Kariba with neighbouring Zambia, and approval is needed from both countries for the project to proceed.
