Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) says its network of airports is ready to handle the surge in holiday travellers

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) says its network of airports is ready to handle the surge in holiday travellers as the festive season officially gets underway this Friday.

The company expects a busy December period and has paired its preparations with several ongoing infrastructure upgrades.

Briefing the media at ACSA’s annual festive-season readiness session on Thursday morning, Chief Executive Officer Mpumi Mpofu said various systems had been reinforced to prevent operational disruptions, including those linked to Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS).

Mpofu added that ATNS had made steady progress in resolving the technical and procedural issues that recently affected operations.

“The period we were planning initially, even for G20, but also for the peak season, ATNS has indicated quite clearly that they are almost at the tail end of resolving all of their challenges. Particularly, the issue of outstanding procedures has seen that really almost covered altogether,” she said.

ACSA said it will continue rolling out upgrades across several airports to improve passenger flow and overall efficiency. Travellers are encouraged to arrive early as airports are expected to operate at high capacity throughout the month.
