Ghana’s plans to build its first nuclear power plant

Ghana’s plans to build its first nuclear power plant could be a game-changer for the country’s energy sector, experts say.

Political analyst Dr David Matsanga highlighted the potential impact, noting that reliable electricity supply would support industrial production and attract both domestic and foreign investment.

“Having a stable and consistent power source is critical for industrial growth,” Matsanga said. “This nuclear facility could significantly boost Ghana’s economic competitiveness in the region.”

However, uncertainty remains over which international partner will be tasked with constructing the plant, a key factor in determining the project’s timeline and technical execution.

The nuclear power initiative forms part of Ghana’s broader strategy to diversify its energy mix and meet rising demand amid rapid economic growth.
