South Africa’s (SA) International Relations Expert, Dr Oscar van Heerden says the arrest and deportation of seven Kenyan nationals from SA may exacerbate tensions with the United States (US)
Yesterday, SA’s Home Affairs Department raided a location where Kenyan nationals were found to be working in the country, despite having only tourist visas, which is in violation of SA’s immigration laws. They were allegedly processing the applications of so-called Afrikaner refugees to the US. Van Heerden says US President, Donald Trump is going to make a big deal out of the incident.
” SA officials had to follow up on those visas and they did the necessary protocols and now the Kenyans have been deported with a ban of five years. So there’s very little leg to stand on from Washington’s point of view. But I’m sure Trump will make noise about it and try to make a big deal about it because, as you know there were also some US staff involved in the skirmishes,” he said.
