Tourism in South Africa is showing strong signs of recovery

Tourism in South Africa (SA) is showing strong signs of recovery, with visitor numbers rising steadily this year.

According to South African Tourism, the country received about 8.5 million visitors between January and October 2025, an increase of more than one million compared with the same period last year.

The organisation says the growth has been driven largely by travellers from the rest of the African continent. SA Tourism Spokesperson Thandiwe Mathibela notes that more than 70% of all arrivals during the period came from African countries, underscoring the importance of regional travel to the sector’s recovery.

Tourism authorities believe the upward trend reflects renewed confidence in travel, improved connectivity, and targeted marketing efforts aimed at African source markets.
