Truck drivers travelling through the Lebombo Border Gate between South Africa (SA) and Mozambique are facing severe delays, with queues stretching more than 28 kilometres along the N4 near Hectorspruit.
Some drivers say they have been stuck for several days, raising concerns about fatigue and the lack of basic facilities such as toilets and rest areas. The congestion has added to frustrations at one of the region’s busiest border posts, particularly during the festive travel period.
Authorities have meanwhile urged motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads, as persistent rainfall continues across much of the province, increasing the risk of accidents.
At least one person was killed earlier today in a collision involving a sedan, a minibus taxi and a truck on the N4 near Malelane. Emergency services attended to the scene, while traffic was temporarily disrupted.
