South Africa’s (SA) Border Management Authority (BMA) says it is working at full capacity to process the movement of both cargo and travellers at the Lebombo Border Post in Mpumalanga Province.
The busy crossing links SA to neighbouring Mozambique through Komatipoort, a critical railway, customs and tourism hub.
With just three days to Christmas Day, traffic volumes have peaked, with a high influx of cargo trucks, buses and minibus taxis ferrying holidaymakers across the border.
Despite the surge, BMA Commissioner Dr Mike Masiapato says officials are well prepared and adequately resourced to manage the increased movement and avoid major delays.
