South Africa’s (SA) Capitec Bank says it has seen an increase in its clients travelling to neighbouring countries this year.
The bank says while travel to the United States (US) and United Kingdom (UK) continue to be popular, its data from March to August 2025 highlights strong activity in neighbouring countries like Lesotho, Botswana, Eswatini, Namibia, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe, reflecting growing regional interest.
Capitec’s data reveals that SA citizens are frequently on the move.
The bank says while the US and the UK remain popular destinations for SA, there’s been an increase in travel to the country’s neighbouring countries.
Data also revealed that Botswana notably appears prominently in both transaction frequency .
Meanwhile, Capitec says SA citizens are always on the lookout for lower-cost trips across the region, or fewer, higher-value long-haul journeys to countries outside of Africa.
It says there’s also been an adoption of digital payments in this period.
