South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) has sounded the alarm over rising levels of learner ill-discipline and violence in schools, warning that the trend is pushing more educators out of the profession.
The union says worsening safety conditions are affecting teachers’ physical and emotional well-being, while also disrupting teaching and learning. SADTU has cautioned that continued inaction could undermine the stability of SA’s education system, as schools struggle to retain experienced educators.
The call comes as pressure mounts on authorities to strengthen safety measures and restore discipline in schools.
