A Catholic Diocese in Nigeria has confirmed that all children and teachers kidnapped from Saint Mary’s Boarding School in Niger State last month have now been accounted for and reunited with their families.

The incident, which occurred in November, involved 315 students and staff. Initial reports suggested that 35 students were still missing even after the government concluded its rescue operations.

The diocese clarified that the discrepancy was due to some students either escaping earlier or never being abducted. “It’s likely they fled into nearby bushes and had not returned to the school before the initial headcount,” church officials said.

Earlier, 50 students managed to escape during the abduction. With all students and staff now safe, authorities and the Catholic Church have pointed out the importance of continued vigilance and security measures at schools in the region.
