United States attack
South African expert Thembisa Fakude, a Senior Research Fellow at Africa-Asia Dialogues, warns that Nigeria’s request for United States (US) airstrikes against the Islamic State in the northwest of the country, could be a significant mistake.
This follows claims by President Donald Trump and the US military on Thursday that the group has been targeting Christians in the region.
The US Department of War further has released footage of a missile launch from a military vessel.

Fakude argues that the strikes are dangerous and indiscriminate, warning they will likely result in civilian casualties and destabilise the country.
