Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of showing no genuine interest in peace

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of showing no genuine interest in peace after an intense overnight attack on Kyiv, even as preparations are under way for a new round of peace talks.

Speaking as he travelled to Florida, Zelensky said the scale of the assault demonstrated Moscow’s continued commitment to war rather than diplomacy. He is due to meet United States President Donald Trump later this Sunday to discuss a new 20-point peace plan drawn up by American and Ukrainian envoys.

Kyiv was targeted in a sustained missile and drone barrage lasting around 10 hours. Ukrainian authorities say at least two people were killed and 32 others injured in the attack, which caused widespread damage across the capital.

The strikes also hit critical energy infrastructure, deepening hardship for residents. Ukraine’s Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, Oleksiy Kuleba, said the damage left about 40% of residential buildings in Kyiv and surrounding areas without heating.

The latest assault comes at a sensitive moment, as diplomatic efforts intensify to find a path towards ending the conflict, now well into its third year. Ukrainian officials say the continued targeting of civilian areas undermines prospects for meaningful negotiations.
