At least nine soldiers have been killed in Nigeria’s north-eastern Borno state

At least nine soldiers have been killed in Nigeria’s north-eastern Borno state after their military convoy struck a landmine, security sources have confirmed. Several other troops were wounded in the blast, which occurred on Sunday.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the incident took place in an area where fighters aligned to the Islamic State West Africa Province are known to carry out regular assaults on security forces.

The Nigerian military has not yet released an official statement on the incident, as investigations continue and the extent of the damage is being assessed.
