Advocate Mothibi appointed as new National Director of Public Prosecutions
South African (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is confident that he made the right decision in appointing Advocate Andy Mothibi as SA’s new National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP).
The Presidency confirmed the appointment on Monday evening, with Mothibi set to officially assume his duties on February 1, following the end of Advocate Shamila Batohi’s term.
Ramaphosa exercised his constitutional prerogative in appointing the former Special Investigating Unit Head, despite Mothibi not being among the six candidates shortlisted and interviewed by the NDPP Advisory Panel last month.
Meanwhile, the President has praised outgoing NDPP Advocate Shamila Batohi for her service.
He described her seven year tenure as significant, particularly in efforts to rebuild the National Prosecuting Authority and restore public confidence in the justice system.
