FOSA has declared its full support for Ugandan opposition presidential candidate Bobi Wine

The Forum for South Africa (FOSA) has declared its full support for Ugandan opposition presidential candidate Bobi Wine ahead of the country’s forthcoming general elections.

In a statement, the civic organisation said Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has become a powerful symbol of resistance against what it described as authoritarian rule and systemic oppression under Uganda’s current leadership.

FOSA Spokesperson Tebogo Mashilompane said the opposition leader’s struggle reflects the long-suppressed voice of many Ugandans calling for democracy, justice and dignity, as well as an end to militarised politics and state-sponsored intimidation.

The organisation strongly condemned what it called a sustained campaign of repression against opposition figures, activists and ordinary citizens. FOSA cited alleged harassment, arbitrary arrests, violence, censorship and the abuse of state security forces as attempts to silence dissent.

“These actions amount to a direct attack on democracy and demonstrate a disregard for the will of the people,” the statement said.

FOSA has called for genuinely free, fair and transparent elections in Uganda, demanding that the poll be conducted without military interference, fear, coercion or manipulation.
