The Women’s Super League has warned that FIFA’s proposed Women’s Club World Cup could be “catastrophic” for domestic football

The inaugural tournament is scheduled for the 5 to 28 January 2028, right in the middle of the 2027-28 WSL season. The global competition will feature 16 teams, including up to six European clubs.

From England, Champions League holders Arsenal are guaranteed a place, with Chelsea also in contention based on current co-efficients. Concerns have also been raised by other European leagues about the disruption to their calendars.
