President of Somaliland has held separate talks with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and US businessman Eric Trump

The President of Somaliland has held separate talks with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and United States (US) businessman Eric Trump, as the self-declared republic steps up efforts to secure international recognition and attract foreign investment.

Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi met the two figures on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where leaders and business executives have gathered for the annual summit.

In a post on X, Abdullahi said his meeting with Herzog focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Somaliland and Israel, describing the discussions as part of broader diplomatic outreach by his administration.

The Somaliland Presidency has said Israel recently recognised the breakaway region, more than three decades after it declared independence from Somalia, a claim that has not been widely confirmed internationally.

Abdullahi also met Eric Trump, the second son of US President Donald Trump, with talks understood to have centred on investment opportunities and private-sector engagement in Somaliland.

Somaliland has operated as a de facto independent state since 1991, with its own government, currency and security institutions, but it remains internationally recognised as part of Somalia. Successive administrations have used global platforms such as Davos to press their case for recognition and to court foreign investors.
