Chad’s Prime Minister, Allamaye Halina, has met with Francisca Tatchouop Belobe, African Union (AU) Commissioner for Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry and Minerals, to discuss closer collaboration in the extractive industries.

The meeting took place during the International Mining, Quarrying and Hydrocarbons Exhibition (SEMICA Chad 2026) and focused on aligning Chad’s national development plan, Vision 2030, with the African Union’s long-term strategic framework, Agenda 2063.

Tatchouop Belobe highlighted the importance of the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) as the continent’s key institution for sustainable resource management. She called on Chad to take the lead in ratifying the AMDC Statute, a move that would finalise the Centre’s governance structure and unlock programmes to modernise Chad’s mining sector with technical support and policy guidance.

She also praised the ongoing co-operation between the AU Commission and Chadian authorities, noting that embedding AU technical support within national ministries would strengthen industrial growth and economic resilience.

Halina welcomed the Commissioner’s message, reaffirming Chad’s commitment to AU initiatives and its leadership role in the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa. He said his government would prioritise the ratification of the AMDC Statute and support efforts to develop a mining sector that contributes to economic diversification.

The meeting ended with both leaders pointing out the importance of using Africa’s mineral resources to generate sustainable benefits for citizens, while reinforcing high-level continental partnerships to drive development.
