Sudan’s Attorney General, Intisar Ahmed Abdel Mutaal says the country has opened criminal cases against more than 120 foreign mercenaries

Sudan’s Attorney General, Intisar Ahmed Abdel Mutaal says the country has opened criminal cases against more than 120 foreign mercenaries accused of fighting alongside the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the ongoing civil war.

She said some of the foreign fighters have already been convicted and sentenced to death, although she did not provide further details on when the sentences would be carried out.

Sudanese authorities accuse the RSF of recruiting fighters from Chad, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Colombia to bolster its ranks in the conflict against the Sudanese army.

The war, which erupted in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced millions, with both sides facing allegations of serious human rights abuses.
