The Southern African Development Community (SADC) regional bloc says it’s working around the clock alongside its partners to assist Mozambicans affected by floods.
The SADC emergency response team has arrived in the Southern African country.
It consists of experts in safety, logistics, search, and rescue, and others.
The deployment of the SADC Emergency Response team forms part of SADC’s regional disaster response mechanisms to support Mozambique following the declaration of a Red Alert and the subsequent appeal for humanitarian assistance.
Some of the affected provinces include Gaza, Sofala and Maputo where a number of areas remain submerged and inaccessible, with extensive damage to roads, public facilities and other critical infrastructure.
Some fatalities have been recorded as well.
