Microsoft SA Chief Executive Officer, Vukani Mngxati, says the launch of the programme will go a long way.
Technology company Microsoft and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) have launched an Artificial Intelligence (AI) education service on the SABC Plus platform.
Microsoft SA Chief Executive Officer, Vukani Mngxati, says the launch of the programme will go a long way in helping to secure future employment opportunities for the country’s youth. He says making AI education available on the public broadcaster’s platform is a “survival responsibility” for the nation.
Mngxati was speaking at Microsoft’s AI Tour 2026 conference at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.
He says equipping people with the right technology skills now will allow South Africa to stay ahead of rapid technological changes, rather than falling behind.
“Our point of view is, if we skill our people now with the right type of tools in technology, because we know this tech is going to revolutionise how we think, we can therefore be ahead of the game as opposed to catching up. Because if we play catch-up, unfortunately, we’re going to impact our unemployment even worse,” says Mngxati.
