Uber has announced its exit from Tanzania after operating in the country for almost ten years

Uber has announced its exit from Tanzania after operating in the country for almost ten years, citing regulatory hurdles and an increasingly unsustainable business environment.

The ride-hailing company said ongoing challenges in navigating local regulations, combined with pressures on profitability, made continued operations unviable. Uber’s departure marks a significant shift in Tanzania’s ride-hailing market, where local competitors and alternative mobility solutions are expected to fill the gap.

The company expressed gratitude to drivers and customers who supported its services over the past decade, while noting its focus will shift to markets where regulatory frameworks are more favourable.
