Uber has announced its exit from Tanzania after operating in the country for almost ten years, citing regulatory hurdles and an increasingly unsustainable business environment.

The ride-hailing company said ongoing challenges in navigating local regulations, combined with pressures on profitability, made continued operations unviable. Uber’s departure marks a significant shift in Tanzania’s ride-hailing market, where local competitors and alternative mobility solutions are expected to fill the gap.
