African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf has reaffirmed the continental body’s commitment to supporting Madagascar as the country works through its political transition.
Youssouf received a briefing in Addis Ababa from the AU’s Special Envoy to Madagascar, Ambassador Mohamed Idris Farah, who reported progress on efforts to stabilise the island nation after last year’s coup plunged it into political uncertainty.
According to Farah, authorities in Antananarivo are showing commitment to advancing an inclusive and credible political dialogue, while recent economic indicators have offered signs of cautious optimism.
Youssouf reiterated the AU’s principled stance on political transitions, emphasising respect for Madagascar-led solutions while the continental body continues to provide support during the process.
