Several aid workers remain unaccounted for after air strikes hit a hospital operated by Doctors Without Borders near South Sudan’s border with Ethiopia.

The facility, run by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Jonglei state, was struck amid a fresh wave of fighting in the region. The organisation has not yet confirmed how many staff members are missing following the attack.

The strike comes as violence resurges in Jonglei between government troops and forces aligned to First Vice-President Riek Machar. Machar has been suspended after being accused of attempting to unseat President Salva Kiir.

There are growing concerns that the escalating clashes could unravel the fragile peace and push the world’s youngest nation back towards a full-scale civil war.
