Kenya’s President William Ruto has unveiled new tax relief measures designed to ease the cost of living for low- and middle-income earners.
Under the proposals, workers earning up $231 a month will be exempt from income tax, while those earning up to $387 will have their tax rate reduced to 25%.
Ruto said the reforms would benefit around 1.5 million Kenyans, who will no longer be required to pay income tax. He described the measures as part of his government’s ongoing efforts to support households facing rising living costs.
The tax changes are expected to provide immediate financial relief to a significant portion of Kenya’s workforce and stimulate domestic consumption.
