Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has concluded a three-day State Visit to Zambia

Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has concluded a three-day State Visit to Zambia, during which the two countries signed a series of agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral and development co-operation.

The deals cover priority sectors including agriculture and food security, energy, and investment. Officials say the outcomes are designed not only to deepen ties between Ghana and Zambia, but also to contribute to broader continental development efforts.

A key outcome of the visit is the agreement to introduce visa-free travel between the two nations, a move expected to ease the movement of people, goods and services while encouraging trade and investment.

Addressing delegates, Mahama highlighted the need for African countries to trade more with one another.

“Africa does the least trade with itself. It is unacceptable,” he said. “When you look at the size of Africa’s economy and what we trade among ourselves, it is very little. The agreements signed today, especially the decision to allow visa-free travel between our two countries, are more than diplomatic instruments, they are a statement of trust.”

The visit reflects growing momentum among African states to strengthen co-operation and advance regional integration in line with the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
