The Ambassadors of Cuba and Venezuela, respectively, say now more than ever solidarity is needed as aggression against the two countries have intensified under the leadership of United States (US) President, Donald Trump.
The two countries were speaking at a gathering in SA’s Cape Town, Western Cape Province, hosted by the Friends of Cuba Society.
The US led economic embargo against Cuba, and the January abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, among others, came under the spotlight.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to SA Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo, says since Trump’s Presidency began, there has been more severe pressure on the country.
Meanwhile Venezuelan Ambassador Carlos Feo Acevedo, joining the gathering online, says the aggression from the US, under Trump’s leadership, is driven by the desire to take control of the country’s oil.
The abduction of Maduro on January 3, is just one of a number of targeted actions, according to the Ambassador.
