O’Sullivan strongly denied allegations that he infiltrated SA’s IPID

Private investigator Paul O’Sullivan has strongly denied allegations that he infiltrated South Africa’s (SA) Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), describing the claims as false and unfounded.

Testifying for a second day before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee, O’Sullivan told members that the accusations distort his interactions with the police watchdog and misrepresent his role in a high profile corruption matter.

O’Sullivan testified that in February 2016 he opened a criminal case against former National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane, but said IPID refused to investigate the docket he had submitted.

He maintained that his subsequent engagements with IPID officials were legitimate and related directly to the case, including a visit to a residential estate linked to the investigation.

He insisted that these interactions do not amount to infiltration, reiterating that claims to the contrary are untrue.

O’Sullivan is continuing his testimony before the committee, which is examining allegations of misconduct and interference within IPID.
