SA Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni says Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana will soon outline measures to support the SABC

South Africa‘s (SA) Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni says Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana will soon outline measures to support the SA Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

At the same time, Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi has appointed technology advisory body BMIT to help design a new funding model for the public broadcaster. A revised SABC Bill is also expected to be tabled in Parliament after April.

Speaking to SABC News after President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered the State of the Nation Address at Cape Town City Hall, Ntshavheni said financial support alone will not solve the broadcaster’s problems.

“Godongwana will announce interventions to support the SABC, but the SABC must also begin building its own financial viability models. Parliament needs to finalise the SABC Bill so the broadcaster can move forward and deliver,” she said.

Ntshavheni added that moving from analogue to digital broadcasting is critical, saying it would cut costs and help place the SABC on a more sustainable path.
