The United Nations (UN) Human Rights Office says violations committed by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) during the capture of the city of al-Fashir may amount to war crimes and possible crimes against humanity.
The findings are based on interviews with more than 140 victims and witnesses.
This includes the documentation of over 6000 killings in just the first three days of the offensive.
The report found that the RSF carried out widespread attacks, including mass killings and summary executions, sexual violence, abductions for ransom, torture and ill-treatment, detention, disappearances and the use of children in hostilities.
In many cases, attacks were directed against civilians.
