Niger’s President Abdourahamane Tiani spoke at length to state media recently, addressing key issues facing the country in an interview that lasted nearly six hours.

 

General Tiani discussed a broad range of topics, including defence and security, governance and justice, economic development, diplomacy, and the country’s outlook for 2026. On the security situation, he offered detailed insight into the recent attack on Diori Hamani International Airport, which occurred on the night of January 28 to 29.

 

“The attack on our international airport is a stark reminder of the threats we continue to face,” Tiani said. “Our forces are fully mobilised to protect the nation, and we remain committed to strengthening security across all regions.”

 

He also emphasised the importance of good governance and economic planning in shaping Niger’s future. He outlined measures aimed at boosting development and ensuring justice and transparency within public institutions.
