South Africa’s (SA) Minister of International Relations and Co-operation, Ronald Lamola, says the country is focused on its re-election as a member of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council.
Lamola was speaking at the opening of the Council’s 61st Session in Geneva, Switzerland, where he welcomed the renewed confidence shown by member states as the Council marks its 20th anniversary this year.
Lamola says, “We are honoured by the renewed trust that member states have placed in South Africa through its re-election to the Council, whose 20th anniversary we mark this year.We are concerned about the attack on multilateralism, unpredictable geopolitical dynamics, and the erosion of a rules-based international order. In this complex environment, SA remains firmly committed to constructive dialogue and the defence of universal core values.”
