South Africa’s (SA) Kaizer Chiefs are on the verge of the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals after beating Egyptian team Al Masry 2-1 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Limpopo province.
Flavio Da Silva scored for Chiefs from a first-half penalty. Despite a strong fight from Al Masry, Chiefs held on to win. The victory puts the Johannesburg-based team at the top of Group D. If they avoid losing to Zamalek in their final group match next weekend, they will move through to the quarterfinals.
In Group C, Stellenbosch FC’s campaign ended after they lost 3-0 to Congolese club Otoho d’Oyo at Stade Alphonse Massemba-Débat in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. Gavin Hunt’s team is now five points behind second place and will play Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars in their last group game next Sunday.
