Zimbabwe national cricket team recorded their first defeat at the ongoing International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup

Zimbabwe national cricket team recorded their first defeat at the ongoing International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup on Monday, suffering a crushing 107-run loss to the West Indies cricket team at the Wankhede Stadium.

The match marked Zimbabwe’s first appearance in the Super 8 stage, but it proved to be a difficult outing as defensive lapses in the field allowed the West Indies to dominate proceedings.

After winning the toss and batting first, the Caribbean side amassed 254 runs in their allotted 20 overs, the second-highest total in T20 World Cup history. Zimbabwe struggled to contain the flow of runs, with missed chances and inconsistent bowling compounding their challenges on a batting-friendly surface in Mumbai.

In response, Zimbabwe were unable to mount a serious challenge, falling well short of the imposing target to hand the West Indies a comprehensive victory.

Despite the setback, Zimbabwe remain in contention in the Super 8 stage, with two crucial fixtures still to play. They next face hosts India national cricket team on Thursday before concluding their group campaign against regional rivals South Africa national cricket team on March 1.
