The United Nations’(UN) top humanitarian official in South Sudan, Tom Fletcher, has concluded a visit highlighting the severe human cost of ongoing violence in the country.

Fletcher travelled to Akobo, where he met people recently displaced from their homes, including new mothers, people living with disabilities, and children who have lost entire families due to the conflict. The visit forms part of broader UN efforts to assess humanitarian needs amid worsening insecurity and displacement across the country.

The Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, said the situation remains deeply concerning, noting that millions of civilians continue to require urgent humanitarian assistance, including food, shelter and medical care.

The UN has called for greater international support to address the crisis and protect vulnerable communities affected by the protracted conflict.
