CPJ says a record 129 media workers were killed worldwide last year

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) says a record 129 media workers were killed worldwide last year, the highest annual toll since the organisation began collecting data in 1992.

According to the New York-based press freedom group, more than two-thirds of those killed died as a result of Israeli fire, with the vast majority being Palestinian journalists reporting from Gaza.

The CPJ described the figure as an unprecedented surge in journalist fatalities, underscoring the growing dangers faced by media workers in conflict zones.
