Senegal’s Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, has called for draft legislation that would double the maximum prison sentence for same-sex relations from five to ten years.
The proposal, if adopted, would amend existing laws in Senegal, where same-sex relations are already criminalised.
Details of the draft law have not yet been made public, but the move is expected to reignite debate among rights groups and civil society organisations over equality and human rights protections in the country.
