Government of the United Kingdom (UK) has suspended all study visa applications from nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar and Sudan, accusing applicants from the four countries of exploiting the UK’s asylum system.
Under the new measures, Afghan nationals will also be barred from applying for work visas.
British authorities say the decision follows concerns that a rising number of individuals have been using legal migration routes, including study and work visas, as a pathway to lodge asylum claims after arriving in the country.
The government argues that the changes are aimed at preventing abuse of the immigration system while maintaining support for those deemed genuinely in need of protection.
