Bellarmine Mugabe’s court case
The South African (SA) Parliament’s Justice Portfolio Committee says it wants answers on the constant power outages at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, which result in the postponement of cases.
The case against Bellarmine Mugabe and his co-accused Tobias Matonhodze was again rolled over to next week, as the court was without power, a second time.
They face charges of attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and breaching SA’s immigration laws.

Parliament’s Justice Portfolio Committee now says it will haul Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi before it, to explain the ongoing electricity challenges at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court as well as at other courts around the country.

They have also bemoaned the conditions outside this court.
However, a number of cases had to be postponed or rolled over since Monday, possibly creating an additional backlog.
