The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies in South Africa (SA) in partnership with the International Telecommunications Union have launched the Africa Digital Transformation Centre in Pretoria, Gauteng province.
The centre, which will be situated at the Innovation Hub, aims to accelerate innovation, digital skills and entrepreneurship in the country and the region as a whole.
Addressing delegates at the launch, Communications and Digital Technologies Deputy Minister Mondli Gungubele says among its various priorities the platform aims to stimulate digital startups and small and medium enterprises.
“The platform aims to strengthen human institutional and technical capabilities in the member states, training policymakers and regulators, developing digital innovation skills, supporting research institutions and universities. What is the result which is expected countries become capable of integrating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) innovation into their national development strategies, accelerating ICT entrepreneurship and Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises growth.”
