Rebel leaders in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia say they believe the federal government may be preparing to launch a new military offensive against the northern region.
The claims come amid growing tensions between authorities in Addis Ababa and the leadership of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), which previously fought a devastating war with federal forces and their allies.
During an interview with correspondent Coletta Wanjohi, journalist Abedi Jean dela Croix asked what evidence the TPLF has to support its claims that the federal government is planning another attack.
Responding to the question, Wanjohi began by outlining concerns raised by TPLF officials, who say recent troop movements and rising political tensions suggest the possibility of renewed confrontation.
The situation remains fragile in Tigray following the peace agreement that ended the two-year conflict, which left thousands dead and displaced millions of people.
