SADC Standing Committee of Senior Officials, has called on regional officials to face “uncomfortable realities” in key areas such as trade, food security, and infrastructure development

South African Ambassador Tebogo Seokolo, Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Standing Committee of Senior Officials, has called on regional officials to face “uncomfortable realities” in key areas such as trade, food security, and infrastructure development.

Speaking at the opening of the committee’s meeting in Pretoria, Seokolo emphasised that while policies and agreements are in place, the region must accelerate efforts to translate these commitments into tangible outcomes for citizens.

He highlighted the urgent need for practical action to ensure that SADC’s goals benefit communities across Southern Africa, warning that slow implementation could undermine progress in critical sectors.

The meeting marks an important step in preparing for the Council of Ministers summit later this week, where Ministers are expected to discuss strategies to strengthen economic resilience and regional development.
