Senegal will take on neighbours The Gambia in an international friendly on March 31, 2026 in what is widely known as the Senegambia derby. The match is set to be played at Stade Abdoulaye Wade in Dakar.

The Teranga Lions will use the encounter as part of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, after topping Group B in the qualifiers with 24 points from ten matches to secure their place at the global tournament.

For The Gambia, the match will serve as a key opportunity to prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Scorpions narrowly missed out on a place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, finishing third in Group A with eight points from six games.

The friendly is expected to draw strong interest across the region, given the long-standing rivalry between the two neighbours and the importance of the match for both teams’ upcoming campaigns.
