Guinea-Bissau is back in the spotlight after former Prime Minister (PM) Baciro Djá broke months of silence

Guinea-Bissau is back in the spotlight after former Prime Minister (PM) Baciro Djá broke months of silence over the events of November 26, when an alleged coup led to the removal of then-President Umaro Sissoco Embaló and halted the country’s electoral process.

During a press conference in the capital, Djá suggested that the Republican Platform may not have been completely removed from the events that allowed the military to seize power.

Shortly after his remarks, the leader of the Patriotic Front for National Salvation was briefly detained by police but released a few hours later.

Political analyst and Guinean legal expert Dr Fransual Dias says Djá’s statements highlight the fragile balance of power in the country and underscore ongoing challenges to Guinea-Bissau’s political stability.
